A set of illustrations created for the 2020 Glyndebourne Festival and Tour. The 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, although the illustrations were on the Glyndebourne website before the cancellation. This was the third festival season that Glyndebourne had commissioned illustrations from Toop Studio. These illustrations combine collage, painting and drawing. The process starts either with supplied stage photography, a new photoshoot or a collection of found images. Rough collages are created from these images. Finally, the collages are printed onto cartridge paper and overpainted using oil paint. They are then scanned and sometimes tweaked digitally. The cover image follows in style from the 2019 collage work. Glyndebourne’s gardens take a central role with the opera house in the distance. Emanating from the building are vibrant, abstract collaged drawings that give a feeling of the sights and sounds of Glyndebourne opera. Here is a list of the operas that would have made up the 2020 season: (George Frideric Handel) (Francis Poulenc) (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) (Ludwig van Beethoven) (Gaetano Donizetti) – See the artwork in the original 2020 Festival digital brochureGlyndebourne Festival Illustration 2020 – The Lost Season
